In April 2026 Messi acquired 100% of Unió Esportiva Cornellà, a fifth-division Catalan club on the outskirts of Barcelona, for an undisclosed sum. It is the first football club he has owned outright.

Financially the deal is immaterial next to a $1.1 billion fortune — a fifth-division club is a rounding error. Strategically it reads as infrastructure: a talent pipeline and community asset in the region where he was formed, and a foothold in club ownership ahead of retirement (his Inter Miami package separately carries an equity option). We list the club at Undisclosed value rather than inventing a price.
